About Cottrell Boatbuilding

Dale Cottrell has been designing, building and restoring boats for over 30 years. His most enduring design is the classic Puffin Dinghy, of which thousands dot the harbors of the world. Dale no longer builds the fiberglass version of the Puffin, but he is soon to introduce a new wooden glued lap version of that timeless design.

We have recently completed a modified Banks dory for a very happy sailor in Northport, Maine and a traditionally built lapstrake dinghy being sailed and used as a tender in Castine Maine. Also just out the door after a new coat of paint and varnish is "Arabesque" a S&S 38' yawl currently gracing the harbor of Castine. In progress is a complete rebuild of "Frolic" an Alden Malabar Jr., which will be headed for Penobscot Bay.

Our goal at Cottrell Boatbuilding is to build beautiful, seaworthy small boats that will become treasured members of the family, passed down for generations. Boats that are capable of turning heads in any harbor. Boats that will bring joy to your life.

If we can do that for you don't hesitate to call. We will do our utmost to provide you with real value and satisfaction. Cottrell Boatbuilding is located in the historic town of Searsport Maine, just minutes away from the Penobscot Marine Museum.
